Best Wishes During This Holiday Season

It's almost time for winter break! Which means I need to start wrapping presents to put under the tree and I need to finish my projects that are due after winter break so I can relax during my vacation. I have completed the first phase of three new projects for my concentration. They are now all ready to be fired!

Trouble is, AMY KEEPS FORGETTING.

But it's ok. I'm not worried that I won't get them done. Maybe not when they're "due," but if I use my time wisely and my nicest manners, I can get them fired over winter break by coming in a couple of times. I know there has to be at least one day that I'm bored to death.

Our final Secret Santa (shhhh...) is this friday and I'm really excited, but I'm really going to miss it. The first week I had Julia and I got her some fancy M&Ms. The second week I had Ryland and I got him a pencil sharpener shaped like a nose. This week I have ................. and I am getting them........................ :)

I got some great stuff too! The first week Haley gave me a bag of my favorite cookies and last week Tolley got me a bunch of incense FROM INDIA! Thanks guys!

New Years is also over Winter Break. It's a time for reflection and I plan to do just that. I am enjoying my final days of AP3D during 2009 and looking forward to 2010. GRADUATION! Oh my gosh. Excited for that, but sad that my Lakeridge experience is coming to an end. I have been blessed with some great classes, great teachers, and the best friends.

So Best Wishes During This Holiday Season and A Happy New Year from me!

Concentration

So last year I read the poem Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant. Thanatos is the greek word for "death," while the suffix "-opsis" means sight. So I started thinking of death and what happens after death. The main thing I always think of is reincarnation, so I started thinking of what things could be reincarnated to and I mostly thought of nature. But then I started wondering what would happen if I abstracted the human form and combined it with a common theme or object.

So, that is my concentration! ABSTRACTED HUMAN FORM COMBINED WITH A COMMON THEME OR OBJECT. So far, I have only finished two...I named them "Mr. and Mrs. Brave New World" because they remind me of that novel by Aldous Huxley.
I have made two more and I am in the process of producing a couple more. These figures are probably my favorite piece I've ever done in the four years I've done ceramics!
P.S. I'm excited for our first secret santa gift exchange tomorrow. I wonder who drew my name...too bad I won't find out until the last class before winter break. I hope that I got something that my person will like, I wasn't sure what to get them. :-)
