Smoke Firing

This week I followed through on my first smoke firing. It was really exciting and I think my pieces turned out really nice. I got in a couple of bowls and my "dart" form.

Glee

I bought the Glee season 1 volume 2 soundtrack and the Glee madonna soundtrack. LOVE THEM!

In art related news: I plan on working on the wheel from here on out. Since I am done with my concentration I really think I need to get better at the wheel. Also, I have an Adv. Ceramics project that I need to make on the wheel...so, yeah.

AP Art Showcase

Hey:
So I have either finished or become close to finishing all my pieces...except for one. There is one breadth piece that I want to replace, but I have no idea what to replace it with. I really want to use wood because I haven't done that yet this year. Any ideas?

Head Games

My latest piece is a bust made of clay and it represents "Head Games"...it has mis-matched puzzle pieces on it (also made out of clay). I actually really like this piece, but I just finished sculpting it, so I need to start thinking about what I am going to do to glaze it. I was thinking maybe staining the bust and then glazing the pieces...what do you think? I love suggestions!

Spring Break Staycation

Hey all:

I am staying home this spring break and I planned on working on some pieces. I have a plan for one that I could do that's like a box without a top and it's made of glass, and each side represents a season. Kind of inspired from the Company Variety Show theme...

Also, I am kind of stuck on my concentration pieces. If you have any ideas for me, please feel free to comment!

Happy Spring,
Jacqui

Thrown Form

In addition to AP3D, I am also taking Advanced Ceramics. One of our projects is 4 wheel thrown pots that look the same. That got me to thinking of doing a wheel thrown body form. I got some inspiration from what Lindsay Mayer did last year. I, of course, do not want to copy her project, but just take the idea and make it my own. Love you Linds!

But What Happens Next???

So I am working on some more of the figures that I've been making throughout the entire year. I am making little ones and I am making a BUNCH of them! Kind of like my own little army.
Now I need to start branching out and trying out different forms of the body. Any suggestions?

Spring is here...

So my latest concentration piece that I created just doesn't seem finished to me. I completed my "silver" piece that I was talking about a while ago...but what about the floral one? Please give me some feedback on what you think I should do.

The Sun, The Moon, and The Stars

My latest piece is made out of clay and is dedicated to the Solar System. I really like him, and he is a yellow-orange. Unfortunately his head fell off due to a not so great slip and score job on my part. But after I fire it, stain it, and fire it for a final time, I plan on gluing it back on. It's not going to be the headless Solar System forever.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I decided to make my next piece a little bigger than I have been making them, and making it completely out of plastic bags. Try and give it kind of a blossoming flower look to the bag rather than just putting plastic bags over each other.

EMPTY BOWLS WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
For all who attended, thank you for your generous donations in our effort to help out the Oregon Food Bank. For all who volunteered, thank you for the time you gave to such a charitable event!

And just another thing I thought someone might find funny. When I typed in plastic on google, one of the options that came up was "Heidi Montag".

Concentration

I really enjoyed the critique our class had last tuesday. Thank you everyone for your nice criticism and creative ideas. For my next form I am going to focus on detail of the human body. Becuase my projects were kind of in between abstract and real I need to find out what side I will be leaning toward. Here is a picture that shows detail of a human body... and he is really cute!!!

AP Art Poster

My dance teacher and employer, Miss Kathleen Van De Veere, sponsered me for the AP Art Poster. It was hilarious, I took it in to her during her itty bitty ballet class and she then spent a consecutive two minutes telling the girls how awesome I am. I love Kathleen!

Check us out online at http://www.misskathleen.net/!

We had finals this week. AGH! I am so thankful that, that was the last time I'm EVER taking an AP Stat test. But luckily I am super stoked about my projects that are due tomorrow in AP3D. I'm turning in my WeeBot and my new piece that I made from other materials besides clay, Rolling on a River.

New Material

I decided that instead of just making my concentration out of clay, I am going to start making those forms with different (new) materials. I started one that going to be made out of marbles and I was also considering scrabble board letter tiles, ribbons, broken up cork board, and possibly even metal wiring.
I was looking at an artist that I found over the internet, Katja Syrjä. She is a 2D artist, but I was reading about her processes and her materials and I found something that interested me, "Syrjä is interested in using materials that she discovers in different environments". I decided that I was going to start looking for materials that were different from the usual and try and really make my concentration unique.
My Poker Face and Mother Nature have been fired and my WeeBot is going into the bisque ware soon. Once they are finished I will post pictures of them. So excited!

Silver is spelled weirdly...

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know that I won a silver key on my Mr. Brave New World, and a silver key on my Mrs. Brave New World. I am so excited! I never actually thought that my pieces would win any awards.

I am so happy that I plan on having one of my future concentration pieces silver based (if I can). I'm going to try and figure something out and see if I can do it. Make it kind of futuristic.

Everyone did such a great job in the Scholastic Art Awards. Almost everyone in the AP3D class got awards for the pieces they submitted. Ryland probably won the most. Check out his blog under the "Other AP3D Blogs" tab on my page.

Well, I'm off to go create something else... :)

Love,
Jacqui

Winter Break Explosion

Over winter break I was looking through my old photos from the AP3D field trip to Portland...and I decided to incorporate some of them into my concentration pieces. I dcecided to try and make my next little guy "Damaged".
I underglazed two new pieces this winter break as well. But the one that I stained EXPLODED! It was sitting in my garage when the snow came and it got a little too cold. BOOM! I immediately took the other two pieces back to school because I was afraid that they would explode too.
I will hopefully have 3 more projects done by the end of next week. And I plan on starting to make a couple more today.
Love,
Jacqui
